I worked with a partner to create this animation to tell the story of the ‘Baldosa of Bilbao’, an iconic patterned tile that makes up the sidewalks of the city.
We decided to take the viewer on a stroll through the city, stopping at memorable spots along the way.
The colors were taken from the famous Puppy that stands guard over the Guggenheim. We were also influenced by the red and white of Athletic Bilbao, the city’s beloved football team.
This was my first collaboration in Spanish, and it was difficult at times to get nuances across with our limited communication. Through a lot of sketching it out on paper, patience, and gesticulation, we managed to create a cohesive piece.
I was responsible for the animation and illustration of the baldosa itself that runs throughout the video, the Guggenheim (plus the spider and puppy), the Azkuna Zentroa (pink building at the end), and windy park bench scene.
