‘Nana’ is Spanish for ‘lullaby’, and these songs could be called lullabies for grown ups.

This collection is inspired by a ludic fusion of English nursery rhyme and Spanish folk tales. I wrote it over the last couple years while living in Spain and had great fun creating without the same self-awareness that goes along with writing in my native language. 

Moodboard (above) is a glimpse into what inspired this songbook. I drew on the bright swirling colors of impressionism, the wonderful pastels from Clive Barkers’ ‘Abarat’ series, and old guitar chord books.

I painted the songbook illustrations with watered down acrylics on stiff paper. I rarely mixed the colors, for the most part taking each straight from the tube. I wanted them to be as vivid and child-like as possible.
